Post incident procedures (PIP) Legal helpline for UNISON police staff members

UNISON has a 24 hour PIP Legal helpline for all our staff members within Gloucestershire Constabulary. this service is designed to help and support members who are involved in an incident where following contact with the police – someone dies, may die or is seriously injured.

In those circumstances you will need immediate assistance and advice from UNISON this is where the PIP legal helpline comes in.

The helpline is open 24 hours a day the number is 0808 164 9332 and is free to call (some service providers may charge). to access this service you must have been a member of UNISON for at least four weeks before the incident happened.

To help you we have provided a letter to our members which has a card attached to it offering basic advice you should follow initially (and repetated below). If you have not got one of these cards contact the branch by either phone 01452753733 or email unison@gloucestershire.pnn.police.uk we will then send one to you. Please keep the card with you as you don’t know when you may need it.

Initial advice If you are involved in a post incident procedure :-
Call the 24 hour PIP Legal Helpline on 0808 164 9332
Notify your local PIP accredited UNISON representative (see your branch page)
Do not make any statement, or hand over any personal item before getting legal advice via the Helpline and your  UNISON representative has arrived
